"Kuma" means the phonomenon of albo-marginated, because this species comes very nice albo-marginated in winter.
So that, this is very popular in plantation at Japanese style gardens.

Culm is about 1-1.5m high and branches appear from the base part of culm.
Leaves are stiff, 20-25cm in length and 4-5cm in width.

Origin is in growing at the northern mountainous area in Kyoto but widely cultivated whole in Japan at present.

This is typical species in Japanese gardens.
