"Miyako" means an old city, because this species grown at Mt. Hiei, ancient city Kyoto was named as nipponica.

Height is about 50-80cm and very slender in culm.
Culm is little bit zigzag.
No branch in above ground part of culm and swellen in nodes.

Leaves are 15-25cm in length and 2-5cm in width.
In winter the leaves become albo-marginated.
It grows widely in the areas where are not deep snow in the Pacific side of Japan.

This is planted at Japanese garden for enjoying its albo-marginated.
