Japanese "Me" means a "woman", because this species is imaged to be soft, smart and lovely in its shape.

Culm is about 7m in height and about 2cm in diameter.
Culm sheath covers about a half of internode and white in color.
Leaves are slender as 15-25mm and long as 20-25cm, little bit pendent at the apex.

It is very popular species distributed widely from Ryukyu island to Kanto district.
Mainly it grows beside rivers and seasides.

Culm is slightly soft with tenacious, because of good to use for bamboo handicrafts.
